Dr. Lawrence E. Carter – Empowerment! (January 12, 2012)

Unity of Sacramento will celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with a special ceremony and program celebrating the world–renowned exhibit “Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace” (GKI) Saturday, January 14 at 5PM. with keynote speaker Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr.

The expansive walking exhibit highlights the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. King and Daisaku Ikeda – three men from different cultures who followed a common path of profound dedication and achievement to improve the lives of all people.

The celebration will feature a keynote address by Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr., Dean of the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel at Dr. King’s alma mater, Morehouse College, in Atlanta. Dr. Carter has taken the initiative to promote the “community building” modeled by Gandhi, King and Ikeda through this exhibition by giving an annual GKI Peace Builder Award. This year Dean Carter will confer the award to Sacramento spiritual leader and peace activist, Rev. Michael Moran. Other luminaries who have received this honor include: President Nelson Mandela of the Republic of South Africa; His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan; Dr. Michael Nobel, Chairman of Nobel Family Society; and President Mikhail Gorbachev of the former Soviet Union, to name a few.

Rev. Kevin Kitrell Ross, Moorehouse College alumnus nominated Reverend Moran for the award. Reverend Ross is event organizer and Senior Minister of Christ Unity of Sacramento.
